A Quick Post About Kale

Today is our 46th wedding anniversary. We have nothing planned as we are in separate states. We'll probably have a nice dinner one of these days when we are in the same place.

I was reading Suzi's blog this morning and was quite intrigued by her mention of "massaged kale." Off I went to the internet to see what this could be. I bought some kale when we grocery shopped this weekend so I decided to try it. My daughter came into the kitchen when it was almost ready and I asked her if she wanted to see something interesting. She replied that she would and she looked into the bowl. I told her that it was massaged kale and she looked at me and repeated "massaged kale."

Her next statement was priceless. "Well, it looks very relaxed." Yes, I had quite a laugh over that before I consumed my large salad.

I had never tried kale until a year or so ago. I was reading about some soup made with kale and white beans and wanted to try it. Then, I started reading about kale chips and finally I tried it in my salad mixed with romaine. So far, I have liked it every way that I've tried both cooked and raw.

I got this photo from Google images.

  1. Wow, congrats:) I tried kale once, as chips, and was disappointed. I guess I should try again. I hear good things about the kale salad at a restaurant near me.

  2. Oh massaged kale is so good!! And the ingredients you can add to it are endless. I find a little bit of acid (lemon/vinegar) and a little olive oil and a smidge of sea salt and I'm in heaven :)

  3. Happy Anniversary to you and Hubs!

I am wanting to try kale but haven't found it yet in the fresh form. Do you make your kale chips yourself?

    1. I looked at a lot of recipes and settled on this method. I tear the leaves off the stems and wash and spin in my salad spinner. I put them on a baking pan in a single layer and use the Misto to spritz them with grape seed oil, sprinkle with a little Cajun seasoning, and bake at 350 for about ten minutes. They need to be watched because one minute they aren't quite ready and the next they are getting too brown. You want them crunchy but not burnt. Plain old salt and pepper would be fine too.

  4. Congratulations on your anniversary. Shame you two aren't together today. As someone who has never married (and unsure if it will ever happen) this is more of an achievement than you realise!

  5. Happy anniversary. That's an amazing achievement.

I recently tried kale. I've wilted it and steamed it and its really yummy. I like the peppery taste. I've never heard of massaged kale though.

  6. Happy 46th! My gosh you do not look like you could be married that long - damn child bride - cradle robber!

    Suzi's lunch - didn't that look good!

Massaged Kale sounds pornish. Wilted Kale... anti pornish.

  9. Happy Anniversary, a few days late..sorry! I have a question but only because I have never seen it in our groceries stores. What is Kale? Isn't it like seaweed? I don't know so stupid questions. Does it come bagged like spinach or loose like herbs?
Hope all is well with you. Take care and have a blessed day!
