Goal Weights

I enjoy reading blogs when people are almost to goal. It is exciting and fun. I read others who are changing their goal weights after maintaining for some time. I was thinking yesterday about how I set my goal weight. When Weight Watchers gave me a goal weight range of 113 to 141, the reason I chose 140 was very simple -- I wanted to quit paying for meetings as soon as possible. Yep, good old thrifty me was not willing to pay for meetings indefinitely.

I still think that 140 is an acceptable weight for me at the age I am. When I was younger, my goal weight was usually 125. I made it to 126 a number of times and to 112 one time for about fifteen minutes. It was one of those things that made me happy and made me want to shop for small clothes. It made my husband unhappy because he said I was too skinny and it made my stepmother ask me if I was sick. It didn't matter because I didn't maintain it for any length of time.

Right now I'm hovering between 132 and 133 most days. One morning last week I saw 131. I haven't changed my goal weight with WW because I have not forgotten those two years when I was above my goal weight. It was a stressful time and I hope I don't have to repeat it. I'm not really trying to lose more weight either. I am actively trying to increase my exercise and I have made my exercise plans for this next week.

Our plans to go to Alabama fell through but we did go out of town yesterday. We went to Hattiesburg which we really like. It seems so different from the Jackson area. They have stores and restaurants that we do not have and, as we discovered yesterday, they also have some rolling hills that seem quite out of place in good old flat Mississippi. We did some exploring and ate out for lunch and dinner. Saturday is our eat out day usually, but it doesn't happen a lot that we eat out twice in one day unless we are on the road.

  1. We are the same height Caron. I have the same ww goal weight range. I have set mine to be 141 lbs. At one point I was 7 lbs away but as you know I backslided but will get back there. For my age I dont need to be 113 lbs, plus I am getting tired of paying for the weigh ins :-)

  2. My story is very much like yours. My range is 145/117. I am 5'4". When I joined WW I set it 145 because of the same reason you did. I hated paying out the money. I am now at 131 and not really trying to lose more weight. I wouldn't mind being at 125, but if I don't make it I'm OK with that. I feel my body will know when to stop. Now that WW has started the 360 program, they really don't want you to have such a large difference in you actual weight and your goal, so I changed mine to 130 last week.

  3. I'm the same height as you so my goal range is the same. I initially chose 134, then 124, and finally 114. At 114 I heard the same comments as you- too skinny, looked sick, etc... so I settled on 119. I'm actually 2 pounds over right now, but since the move I haven't been back to WW. I'm still technically an employee, but since where I worked was a franchise and not part of WW International, I should probably resign.

  4. I remember when I had done WW many years ago the high end of my healthy range for my height was 67kg (147lb). When I lost over 40 pounds I have photos of me at 152lb and 143lb. At 143 I looked like I'd gone too far, but the 152 I was good. I have set my goal at the 147 mark. I don't think I looked right at 143. We'll see how it goes when I get closer to goal. Thank you so much for your encouraging comments on my blog. It is much appreciated.

  5. I like Hattiesburg, too! It's been too cold to walk the LongLeaf Trace when I've been there, but I'm hopeful in a few months, I'll get another assignment in that area!

  6. You are smart to keep your weight maintenance goals reasonable and I love how committed you are to staying right there! We are not far from Memphis!

  7. I'm the same height as you, and the reason why I picked my goal weight was because I didn't like the idea of someone else picking that for me. I wanted to make the decision on my own. I've chosen 137 as my goal weight because it'll mean that I would've lost 125 pounds with WW, and half my body weight overall.

  8. As a former WW leader I can tell you lots and lots of people do exactly what you did in order not to keep paying. I think eventually everyone finds the weight that is right and generally that low number is much too thin for most people. You do a great job right where you are, so I'd say you've found your happy weight!

  9. You are doing awesome maintaining Caron!! Sometimes that's harder than losing the weight.

Hooray for a road trip! Love when trips like that happen.
