My oldest daughter gave me the nicest set of yoga DVDs for Christmas a year ago. There are three individual DVDs with lots and lots of routines on each one. There is one for beginners like me. I've mostly talked about using them and actually done very little with them. Sad, I know.
I have attended four yoga classes and that helped me not to be quite as timid about trying it. Now, I'm going to challenge myself to work on doing all of these routines in the next few months. This morning I did the first two routines which were 15 minutes each.
I know that being more flexible is a good thing but I also think that calming a racing mind is almost as good. This morning I kept getting distracted by myself but the person talking on the DVD would encourage me to concentrate on my pose and on my breathing. I felt really good after the 30 minutes.
The sun is still hiding from us. They say there may be a few snow flurries tonight but no accumulation. We can hope they are right.
As an aside, I've had the best eye day today that I've had in months. I hope it lasts.

I did yoga when I was young (late teens and early twenties). When I got very fat, I simply couldn't bend and hold poses, it was just not possible. I did see some larger ladies doing yoga--not as big as I was, except one who was quite tubby like me--but the moves were limited, natch.
ReplyDeleteI think Yoga and Pilates both have centering benefits, balance and flexibility benefits, and depending what you do, strengthening power. When I was totally committed to my Pilates, I had really nice muscle under the fat. Made me feel good, even if you couldn't see it. hahaha
Do the DVDs. They're yours, right? Enjoy..
Yoga is so calming. I remember being so stressed one time and doing candlelight yoga and I felt so much better afterwards. I need to do that again! Keep us posted on how you like it!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I'm thinking about adding yoga to my training schedule. Do you have to be very coordinated?
ReplyDeleteOh I love yoga! I hope you don't worry about being perfect and just have fun with it. The self-exploration with yoga is awesome.

Building a yoga practice is one of my goals this year. A local church has a very inexpensive class two nights a week. I'm just waiting for warmer weather so I can wear my capris without freezing my fanny off. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I have the same DVD. I really have to try it. My knees need a different kind of workout
ReplyDeleteFinding that mental calm and stillness is one of the main reasons I like doing yoga type exercises. The flexibility and improvement in posture are bonuses :)
ReplyDeleteI love yoga! I really need to find a good DVD to get back into it.
