I switched from the beginner yoga DVD to the next one entitled Yoga for the Inflexible Person. I've only done one of the routines, but I was able to do all the moves (some modified, of course) and finished the 30 minutes with a minor problem - sweaty feet. I've tried keeping my socks on during yoga and slid too much on the mat. I don't slide with sweaty feet, but it is kind of gross. I normally don't have this problem, so I think it is just my feet reacting to the mat material. Maybe these would help?
I went to WW Tuesday for my February weigh-in and also to purchase a couple of the new three month trackers. I weighed in mid-day at 132.8 which was a loss of .6 from my January weigh-in.
My eye problems are not improving. I tried leaving off dairy for a month or so with no improvement. I have been without caffeine now for more than two months and it has not helped my eyes either. I'm considering going back to regular coffee since I read that decaf coffee is more likely to cause problems with one's stomach. I'm still deciding. I'm also going to seek out another eye doctor very soon.
I went to bed Tuesday evening thinking that I was definitely going to stop my blog because of my eye issues. The next morning I was once again undecided. Maybe, I will take a two week break and see if my eyes improve. I can be having a fairly good eye day and a few minutes on the computer will start the problems. I can be having a fairly bad eye day and a few minutes on the computer will make the problems worse. I think that even more than not writing, I will miss reading my favorite bloggers.
I'm still trying to settle on a salad dressing that I like and will use consistently which does not have 19 or 20 weird ingredients. Sometimes I use a teaspoon of grape seed oil with two teaspoons of balsamic vinegar but other times I don't want to bother and will go to the fridge and get the Ken's Steakhouse lite Caesar dressing and use that. I have also just splashed on a teaspoon or two of straight balsamic vinegar which is a very boring salad in my opinion. PlumPetals suggested mixing mustard with the balsamic vinegar but I have not done that yet. It is next on my list for sure.
When we went grocery shopping last Saturday, we got a new salad dressing which was Ken's Steak House lite poppy seed dressing. It was creamy and we thought we would like it. When I got it out to put on the salads, I tasted it and it was so sweet I could not believe it and wasn't about to put it on my salad -- low calorie or not. Really, really nasty! The first ingredient was vinegar and the second ingredient was high fructose corn syrup. Yep, I didn't take the time to read the label which is so important. My husband said he would try it if I thinned it down so I added a little skim milk to it and he ate it. After dinner, I threw the salad dressing in the garbage because that is what it was.
I am flying back to Tucson on Sunday and am looking forward to nicer weather. I have a few yoga classes left on an old Groupon that will run out the end of the month and I am going to take advantage of those.
Happy weekend to all.

You look great in your most recent photo. And I'm all for nicer weather, as I'm a little winter weary here in Minnesota. As for the salad dressing...I'm amazed at how much sugar or high fructose corn syrup they can contain. The definitely affect my blood sugar numbers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment, Jane. I think Cammy's idea of mixing Greek yogurt with salsa might be just what I was looking for or at least one really good idea.
DeleteHi Caron! Your feet are supposed to get a little bit sweaty on the rubber mat so that you have better traction, which gives more safety when doing the poses. I was super duper inflexible when I started yoga. So don't feel bad about that at all.
ReplyDeleteAs E. Jane says above, I told you that your recent photo rocks. Didn't I tell you that?!
:-) Marion
Thanks, Marion. You did indeed tell me it was a good photo. :)
DeleteI really hope you get some answers soon about your eyes!!
ReplyDeleteI wear my vibram five fingers and they grip everything.
You look amazing. Have a great weekend.
Thanks, Suzi. I'm so tired of having my eyes give me so many problems. I hope you have a good weekend too. :)
DeleteSorry about your continued eye problems - hopefully you'll figure it out at your next appointment.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried these, but my sister has, salad dressings made out of vegetables - check it out:

Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks for the website, Biz. I took a peek and it looks good. I do occasionally use salsa as a dressing but I mix it with a bit of light mayo which kind of defeats the whole purpose. Sigh.
DeleteCaron, see if Nature's Promise Organics brand salad dressing is available where you are. I don't use it often, but if I have to bring a salad to a family dinner (they always assign me salad...hmmmm), that is what I get. The ingredients aren't too offensive.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Norma. I'll check for it on my next grocery trip. :)
DeleteCaron! I saw these at Barnes & Noble over the weekend & thought of you!

I'm so sorry about your eyes, Caron! I hope you find some relief soon.
ReplyDeleteI saw your reply to Biz above and wanted to add that some folks mix a little Greek yogurt with salsa to make a "creamy" dressing. Might be worth a try.
I use Litehouse Dressing thinned down with pineapple juice on my salads. I'm just weird that way. :)
Now that is one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" moments. Greek yogurt and salsa sounds really good to me. Yum. :)
DeleteI hope you find a solution to your eye problems soon. It must be so frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI've tried yoga shoes like stick-e before, but I found that they were a bit too sticky! Right now I use a Manduka mat for yoga and I love it! It's a bit expensive, but I think it's 100% worth it. Just the right amount of grip :)
I hope you don't give up blogging since I find your posts very inspirational I and am always happy when you write. But I am sorry about your eyes...sounds like a drag!
ReplyDeleteFor salad dressing, lately I've been using hummos with vinegar and sometimes a little water to thin it. It is very delicious. I also occasionally make a combo of vinegar and mustard. I'm trying to use very little oil.
So sorry to hear that your eyes continue to bother you so much. I wish you could find an answer to that!
ReplyDeleteI use Newman's Own Light Dressings - no high fructose corn syrup and the ingredient list is minimal. Also I know Marzetti makes a line of dressings called Simply Dressed. They come in regular and light versions and really do not have many more ingredients than if you'd made the dressing yourself.
